France: Annemasse to Evian-les-Bains on 8th April 1972

My only successful trip to France for steam. A trip a few weeks earlier had seen just one 141R 2-8-2 working, on a day of heavy rain with that freight train piloted by a diesel loco!! My return trip to the same line, (Annamasses to Evian-les-Bains), was much better. A very busy weekend including heavy ski train specials and a number of the 2-8-2s in use. I was fortunate to be on the lineside at the right place and time to witness the wonderful sight and sound of two of these powerful machines thunder past on a 15 coach passenger train. One of the great spectacles of my steam loco enthusiast life.
